I also just read an article talking about Google's announcement is testing a 1 gigabit/per second service that it intends to open to other providers.
I predict that by 2020 Google will put out hardware, an online operating system, and always-on internet fast enough to sideline traditional hard drives. Signing into your computer will eventually be something that you do primarily online, from anywhere. 'My Documents' will be there too.
I wonder if when Google has everything in place they'll start charging for their online operating system. Maybe we'll have the Microsoft dilemma all over again, times 2! Oh, and as a sidenote, that will be the hayday of identity theft, so sign up for identity theft protection with CPP North America!
What interesting things do you see down the road?

As fascinating and impressive as internet technology is to me, I´m really not sure how I feel about fully online computing. Lately I´ve started thinking just a little about how much clout Google has even now, storing all of your emails and increasingly all of your credit card, banking, lodging, phone, and other information. There´s a part of me that likes the idea of having the technology of the internet, but the security of having personal information stay personal. I know the day in which that´s practical might already be long gone, but there are still some measures of privacy that we can hold onto.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, it will be interesting to see how this idea plays out (or doesn´t).
Hey John, I hear you. While the extreme reactions to all of this bother me, I do see the dangers and not many solutions yet.
